1. BT Telephone Line - Also, it has to be within a certain distance of an ADSL enabled exchange. Your line must pass a number of tests before installation.

For a single PC, just put in the CD, install the drivers and plug in the modem. The majority of home users or single PC users choose USB modems to get online. |
| Ethernet / Wireless Router -
A standalone device which maintains the connection to the Internet for you.
Most routers have an Ethernet connection to your local area network and act as a gateway, and Firewall service. Businesses can use a router to connect multiple computers to the Internet. A wireless router will allow a PC or laptop with a wireless adapter to connect from distances of up to 100ft away. |
| VPN Firewall / Router -
A more advanced router which allows secure incoming connections.
This type of device is commonly used by companies wishing to have remote workers securely connect into a main office. It can also be utilised to connect multiple office networks together across the Internet via a virtual private network. |
3. Micro-filter - is designed to plug into your phone socket and its purpose is to separate voice from data and must be connected to each phone socket on the ADSL telephone line. If you do not have a telephone or any device which uses the phone line, a micro-filter is not required. |
