Symmetric High Bit Rate DSL (SHDSL) – allows data to be transferred in both directions up to 36 times faster than a standard Internet connection (56k modem versus 2Mb SDSL).
SDSL allows the same transfer rates upstream and downstream, a maximum of 2Mbps in each direction. This is an even faster technology than ADSL and is more suited to sophisticated business users who need to upload data and for branch offices of companies who exhange large volumes with other offices.
Some examples of the type of companies who would use SDSL would be media production agencies who send large picture, video or audio files, or a company that hosts their own website and email in house and needs to provide faster access for site visitors.
SDSL works by splitting the line into two high speed, symmetrical up and down-stream information channels.
